Post Presscon Damage

In sports events, the winner can be seen by any spectator. For academic contests other than quizbees, it's a bit different. Results are determined behind closed doors and you don't know exactly how they're checking your papers. But the worst and most nerve-wracking kind of academic contest is the writing contest. While there are definite answers for math, science or grammar tests, writing tests have judges who have their own way of writing things. Judging is terribly subjective for writing contests. If the judges don't feel your writing, no matter how ok it is by most standards, your chances of winning are greatly diminished.

Earlier today, I joined such a contest. This particular contest has a special place in my heart for two reasons: 1) because our school has won it 7 years straight and I'd hate to be a contributor to its hypothetical embarassing defeat this year and 2) I love my Pauliworld family so very much and I want all of us to be happy. My categories were News Writing and Copyreading and Headlining.

My performance? I don't know.

And this is why writing contests are so scary. You don't know exactly what the judges are thinking or looking for. Even if you asked them, they'd give you a vague answer that would hardly help your situation. Personally, I think I submitted crap during News (where crap is AKSDFASKFLAKFAKFJAKSICAN'TBELIEVETHAT'SALLICOULDSUBMITI'MGOINGTOLOSESOBAD) and I did fairly ok in Copyreading and Headlining (where fairly ok means not epic fail but not awesome either). But my personal opinion won't matter much against the almighty judges'. There is hope that my news crap would be better than around 30-something other entries and there is the sickening possibility that my grammar and structure skills aren't as good as I thought they are.

Either way, I'm panicking. Panicking to the point of crying at sirV's message asking us how it all went. (Pardon the affectedness D: Maybe it's hormones... it's my second day D:)

I just want it GREAT AT EIGHT. PLEASE LANG TALAGA D: SANA MAGTEXT SI SIR DECANO SA THURSDAY. I NEVER WANTED AN AWARD FOR SOMETHING THIS BAD. AWARDS AND EACH OTHER ARE ALL WE HAVE BECAUSE... well you know :(

Well, stress aside, I did have a bit of fun din naman, making usap-usap (<-yuck) and playing "ice ice water tag you're it" in Rizal High's HUUUUUUUGE field. Swear, that school is awesome XD Can't say the same for all students though O_O They grab IDs, ask for phone numbers, ask random questions and follow you around like they had nothing else to do O_O Special mention to Kara, Pia, Triz and Pat, my walking around the school buddies :D Especially Kara, my "barkada bestie" who will appear in Candymag with me =))=))

Ugh, gotta study Filipino, CL and ALGEBRA now. EXAMS @-)

Here's to your lovely eyes :D
