When we got to Sami's house, she was on the phone with Rob. "Rob, I have to go. Get over here as soon as possible. Nikki and Amelia are here. I love you, bye." The next thing I knew, Sami had wrapped her arms around me and had me in a tight hug. "Mel, I've missed you! I'm so glad you decided to come!" I swear, I thought she was going to cry.
I decided not to tell her that I wouldn't have come if I had my way. "It's okay, Sami. I wasn't dead. I'm just dealing with stuff."
"I know but that doesn't mean you had to stay away."
"What do you need help with?" Nikki asked.
Sami loosened her death grip she had on me. "Oh, I'm pretty much done. I got bored and didn't have to do any homework so I have everything set up already. I was just going to do my hair and makeup. Let's go upstairs."
We followed her up the staris and into her bathroom. She turned on her flat iron and ran to her room to change.
"Are you okay?" Nikki asked with a concerned look on her face.
"I'm just nervous." I said quietly. "What if they don't want me here?"
"Melia, you known these people for years. So you've been having a bad few months. I doubt they'll stop talking to you because you've been distant. If anything, they should be glad to see you."
"'Should be' are the key words. That doesn't mean they will be."
"Don't be such a pessimist. You'll have fun."
Just then, Sami came back. She was wearing a black v-neck t-shirt with a hot pink tank top on under it and faded blue jeans.
"So Mel, what ahve you been up to?" she asked while sectioning her blond hair.
"Nothing really. Trying to help my mom take care of things around the house. My dad moved out."
"Oh, that's right. Have you talked to him?"
"No , and at the moment I don't want to."
"Oh, right." she said dropping the subject.
When she was finished straightening her hair, she started putting on eyeline. Then she continued with pink eyeshadow, lip gloss and mascara.
"Sam, has Cooper in her French class." Nikki told me. "What is he like?" she added turning to Sami.
"Oh my God! Cooper is so cute! He sits behind me and I haven't had a chance to really talk to him because Mrs. Wallace is evil and yells at me everytime I turn around."
Just then, the doorbell rang and we all jumped. Sami looked at the time on her cell phone. "It's already 7:20!" What happened to the time?!"
When we got to the door, everyone was there. I mean everyone. It was as if they all took a bus here or something. However, after checking the street and driveway, I noticed there were multiple cars.
Rob was the first one through the door. "Hey guys!" He yelled. He kissed Sam on the forehead and pulled me into a hug. "I missed you, Mel! I'm glad that you're here." he told me. Then he ran to the stereo down in the basement to turn on his favorite band which was Three Days Grace. I remembered him being a bit shorter than he was now. We all followed him to the basement. "Oh! Elijah, Kyle, Taylor and I have started a band!" he said while rolling up he long sleeves and running a hand through his bronze hair.
"We're called The Rock Gods." Kyle chimed in resting his arm on my shoulder. Kyle was also unusually tall, with shaggy black hair.
"That's still up for debate." Elijah corrected. He was a bit shorter than the others. He had the most beautiful hazel eyes I had ever seen. He always rolled his eyes whenever I would tell him this. He heard it a lot from multiple people.
"Yeah, I refuse to be in a band with a name as lame as 'The Rock Gods'" Taylor said rolling his yes. "Hey, Amelia. It's great to see you again." he said, pulling me into a hug.
The guys all ran off to argue about the band's name and Sam and Nikki came up to me with a girl and a guy I had to assume were Bailey and Cooper.
"Amelia, this is Bailey. The new girl in my Spanish class." Nikki introduced us. Bailey was short with long red hair and blue eyes.
"And this is Cooper." Sami said. She wasn't kidding when she said Cooper was cute. He was gorgeous. He had a curly blond-brown hair and blue eyes, just like Bailey. I was wrong about Elijah having the most beautiful eyes. That title now went to Cooper. There was no competition. I shook both of their hands and told them it was nice to meet them.
Nikki and Sami walked away to discuss something they wouldn't tell me about. Elijah then came up to us. "Hey, Cooper wanna come hang with us guys? You can tell Kyle that he's insane for trying to name the band single-handedly. I feel it is my duty to not let you sit here with the girls and hear them jabber on about Orlando Bloom and makeup or whatever it is they talk about." he said winking at me.
"Sure, Cooper said getting up. "It was really nice to meet you." he said to me.
"Y-you too." I stammered.
"So, what kind of music to you like?" Bailey asked.
"Oh, you know different kinds. A little bit of everything. Except for country and heavy metal." I said.
"OH! I know, right? They call that music?"
Bailey and I talked about nothing in particular. She said that her family came from Minneapolis, Minnesota because her father got a better job here as a journalist. Her mother was a nurse and was going to be working at St. Mary's Hospital. When I asked her who was older, she said that Cooper was older than her by half an hour. They didn't have any other siblings and were very close. She was a very sweet person. I could tell that we had the potential to be fast friends. I noticed that Nikki and Sami were still gone and I decided to investigate. "Will you excuse me? I need to use the restroom." I lied.
"Yeah, sure! Taylor and I have a date. He won't tell me where we're going. I'm going to try to get it out of him." Said winking and heading off to find him. That was when my eyes met Cooper's. I always felt a weird sensation when he looked at me. It was as if we had a connection that we were unaware of at the moment. He smiled and I thought I was going to melt right there. I smiled back. Forcing myself to look away, I got up and headed back upstairs to find Nikki and Sami.
When I heard their voices coming from the kitchen, I decided from the tone they were using that it might be best if I didn't announce my presence.
