Well, for quite some time there has been some fear that Google is turning into the next Microsoft in the tech community. The more I see shit like this, the more I believe it.
As some of you are aware, Google released a beta of it's web-browser, Chrome. While I was initially excited (as just about everything Google creates is a huge success), before I had a chance to install it this morning I thankfully tripped over
this CNet news story linked from Slashdot.
Seems their EULA is trying to out Microsoft Microsoft as it were:
"By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any content which you submit, post or display on or through, the services. This license is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the services and may be revoked for certain services as defined in the additional terms of those services."
You're kidding me right?? While that may not seems so bad (ie they say they'll only use if to promote the service) they could change it on the fly in a content patch. AOL changes their EULA all the time and adds a blurb on the end something to the effect of "By continuing to use this service you agree to the above terms."
All in all, I don't think I'll be using Chrome. Those that choose to, at least you're informed now.
