15 small things that make me happy

Sep 16, 2008 22:38

From now on I want to balance every negative post I make with a positive, happy one. Here is a list full of things I have been enjoying lately, or am very much looking forward to enjoying!

*** Samorost 2: I discovered this little game a few weeks ago and have been absolutely delighted by it. I find it to be aesthetically stunning for an internet game, very surreal and oneiric in places, with an eerily beautiful soundtrack to accompany it. The game is basically a point-and-click journey through a mysterious world wherein you guide a little gnome to rescue his dog. It's simple and addictive. It has two chapters, the first of which is free to play online, and the second you have to pay for BUT it is a small price to pay to support such amazing work! I am a fan. There is also the predecessor Samorost, which is nice too though somewhat less involved. For those wondering, Samorost is a Czech word meaning both "a root or piece of wood resembling a creature," and "a person who doesn't care about the rest of the world." I like this very much.

*** Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog : I love this! It is a short (43 minutes total) movie written by Joss Whedon during the writer's strike. I watched it during its initial release in July and thought I would have to wait for the DVD to see it again. I'm very glad I was wrong. It's on Hulu, so there are some commercial breaks, but I would recommend this to anyone. Maybe it's old news by now, but. . . I've watched this ten times. <3 And I will still probably buy it when it comes out on DVD - not just because it is cool, but this is exactly the sort of thing I want to promote more of. Yeah!

*** www.FreeRice.com. I discovered this just a few days ago. It's a game (vocabulary by default, but there are other subjects available too) and for every answer you get right they donate 20 grains of rice to the United Nations World Food Program. You may think 20 grains of rice doesn't sound like much, but they've donated over 43 billion grains of rice since October 2007. The game is fairly addictive, and it's fun to see your rice add up as you are learning new things. This is exactly the sort of thing I love to see. It is a small way to help end world hunger, it's fun and totally free. Please enjoy a game!

*** The season finale of New Kids on the Rock, by Niel Cicierega, Kevin James, and Ryan Murphy is out: The Vigilante. These are some of my favorite internet personalities, and I think this is my favorite episode so far. <3

*** The VERY long awaited SPORE is finally out! I still don't have it yet, but I am SO EXCITED for this game! I'm really happy to know it's out there. It is only a matter of time before I splurge and buy it for myself.

*** Speaking of games, ROCK BAND 2. This is another one I can't WAIT for but it will be awhile before I can afford it. They totally have Pinball Wizard in this one.

*** RHOMBUS! Adventure Time, by our good friend Pendleton Ward has been picked up by Cartoon Network for a full series! If you watch the short, you'll see why this is such exciting news. Adventure Time is AMAZING and beloved now by hundreds of thousands of people. I am overjoyed to see more from Pen Ward, who is a pretty cool guy himself.

*** Nation States 2 is in Beta!

*** Sooo I played through a little online game called "Game, Game, Game, and again Game" which was pretty trippy and weird. At the end, there was this video. Since then, I have been watching Staggering Legends of the Inane, "barely written and filmed by Jason Nelson." Maybe these aren't for everyone. I am amused, though.

*** The fifth season of House has begun! I watched the first episode and I think it will be a good season. <3 I'm still looking forward to it every week, so I think it's doing okay.

*** Criss Angel Mindfreak is in its 4th season on A&E. Yowza.

*** I have been reading the comics on nedroid.com and they are hilarious.

*** Little things like this still amaze me.

*** It is very much almost autumn! The weather has been so close to perfect. A wonderful time of year. Halloween soon, and then straight into the holidays! I'm excited!

*** journeymanjim has promised me use of his Flickr account - so very soon, I hope to finally have a long post about China, and eventually, a good one about London as well. Thank you, Jim! :D This was very generous. I'm looking forward to posting pictures again. In fact. . . I can't wait! THANK YOU!

HOORAY!
