Ruffhaus has been sold! We closed escrow last Friday. I dropped off the keys and said one last farewell to downtown Oakland. I cried a little as I said farewell - listening to my shoes echo on the stairs one last time, flipping the gold-star lightswitch in the bedroom, looking out over the depth of the cityscape and watching the people and cars go by. Then a crazy dude on a bike rode by shouting "BE QUIET BE QUIET BE QUIET!" and I decided yeah, it's time to be done with that chapter, and I'm happy to move on to whatever's next. The wire transfer for $$stupidamounts arrived on Monday morning, and I've decided to spend some of that money buying us nice new furniture.
It's surprisingly difficult to find *nice* furniture. I might swing by Fenton McLaren later today to see if they have anything suitable. West Elm looked good online, but when I went to check out
my favorite item, it turned out it doesn't have any sliding hardware. The drawers just slide in and out of a big wooden box, with some teflon spacers to keep them centered. That would drive me *batty*, especially given they want almost $1000 for the damned thing. Screw that! Time to go hunting for some higher quality furniture. Open to suggestions! We particularly like mid-century styles.
Post forthcoming on the difficulty of making decisions on where to buy our next home. Lots of thoughts brewing in my head about that.
