I actually had someone gripe at me yesterday for using the word "apocryphal," and told me to stop using "five-dollar words" that I had to explain.
Of course, this is the same guy who had no clue what "peruse" meant, either.
I will never understand why people get all pissy over such things. Like it would kill people to actually learn something, instead of expecting everything to be dumbed down for them.
