Sorry I haven't posted in a couple of weeks, things have been pretty busy. Work is getting slightly hectic, despite having less hours than usual (lots of sales calls for my boss). QC is winding down to its concert, and I'd be there today if I didn't have one of those retarded colds where you clear your throat every 5 minutes :P And I entered two choral composition contests this month - wrote two new songs! How crazy is that :) I'll let you know if anything happens, here's hoping. I think these are two of my best pieces yet, and definitely my best choral pieces.
The next competition is an Adagio contest. Basically, it wants us to write a pieces comparable to Barber's "Adagio for Strings", the SAHDDDest piece ever. The title up for grabs is "Master of Melancholy" :P Very cute. So the mission is to write a very sad piece by the end of April, string quintet/orchestra.
So what makes music sad? Is it being in minor? A lot of un-sad pieces are in minor, including most of the "God of War II" OST ^____^ And some slow music is just gorgeous and not sad. The combination? But isn't that cliche? Lack of key/resolution? (Well, "The Ring" isn't SAD :P) I need some input here before I start to write. Anyone, please share some comments!
