For the first time in about a month or so, I'm back to a one-day off per week schedule at work. This week, I'll be working Wednesday morning, Thursday morning, Friday morning, Saturday double, Sunday double, Monday morning, Tuesday off, and Wednesday morning again. I guess it's not really that bad. I'll be QA, server, Togo, bar then QA, bar then Togo, QA and QA on all the shifts respectively. I did tell the GM that I need a small break from working QA for awhile though. I've been doing that longer than I've been a server. And especially now, when he's trying to tell me that I should be able to handle it all by myself without manager help. I'm sorry, but when you have ten to fifteen tables of food come into the window all at once, having to make sure that not only the correct food is going to the right table, but that it's "picture perfect," and having to do it within a fifteen minute window...it gets really stressful. Especially when something isn't right with one thing and you're thrown into overload.
My schedule wouldn't be so bad this week if I didn't already have plans for Saturday night, and I remember putting on my schedule that I wasn't available for Saturday night. I like to leave Friday and Saturday night open for the possibility of picking up shifts should I want to. This Saturday, I had plans to go and see my friends' band play and I've already bought a ticket for it. Okay, Brandon bought the ticket for me, but still. I wanted to go and see them play. If they weren't the opening act, I would still have a chance. Now, I'm going to have to tell Brandon that he better take someone else. I don't get to see these guys very often, and even less do I get to see their band play. Of course, I can't get someone else to take the shift, because we don't have that many people who are QA qualified.
Why couldn't he just stick with my usual Saturday schedule where I would be off work around five? Oh yeah, because no one wants the Saturday QA shift. Much more stressful than usual and not enough monetary compensation. Plus, we're short on people. We need at least five more servers to get back to where we were before. I think they need to change the whole training process. We have enough people applying and getting hired...they're just not making it through training because of the tests. We currently have three in training and if they all make it through, that will be a miracle.
