My Elementary Vietnamese textbook arrived today. I am officially going to begin learning Vietnamese this summer. The book teaches the Hanoi dialect. My mom was telling me about all the dialects. Besides the obvious North and South dialects, the Saigon dialect is a mix of the North (Hanoi) and the South, and the North dialect can be broken into the country vs. the city.  :(

Anyhow, I was particularly pleased to find this book because it's an actual textbook, written by a native speaker with a PhD in linguistics. None of this tourist crap where the book was written by some white guy. I'm excited because there a chapter on health care. If I learn enough, maybe I'll be able to take the medical Vietnamese class when it's offered by one of those clubs.

Ugh, that reminds me, I need to learn medical Spanish too. At least Spanish is easier than Vietnamese. All I have to worry about it rolling my r's.
