It's been several months since I did a proper "state of the Moria" update! And a fair amount has actually ben going on. Here's a partial review of the last couple of months:
-- I was supposed to be in Theatre@First's production of "The Vagina Monologues" on Feb. 9. Unfortunately, I got stuck at home when Snowpocalypse hit. It was a big disappointment, especially when I heard about the triumphant despite-the-snow Saturday evening production, and
lillibet decided that we weren't going to do the show again. Since our production was part of Eve Ensler's "One Billion Rising" project, I had a good cry and then channeled the energy into one of the "One Billion Rising" flash mobs the following week.
-- My new hobby is taking MOOCs ("massive online open courses". I always was the type of person who likes to take courses for fun, and with this MOOC thing, I can do so for free. One warning, though: If you decide to take MOOCs, only do one at a time! And definitely not three -- oh, heavens, not three! (And how do I know this?) Like all good courses, a MOOC is designed so that the more you put into it, the more you get out of it. A lot of the action happens in the online discussion forums. So if you're not participating very much in the forums (because, for instance, you signed up for three of them), you will miss out on a lot of the benefits. Still, I recommend checking out Coursera
http://www.coursera.organd EdX
http://www.edxonline.org -- I'm being trained to be acertified mediator. My training ends on Saturday, at the end of four Saturdays of training. This is for volunteer work, but I'm hoping it will make my resume more interesting. (There are ways to get paid for mediating, but I've heard it's quite competitive. If I enjoy the work and think I'm good at it, I may take one of the more advanced courses for something like divorce mediation.
-- I'm seriously looking for potential jobs.
-- I need to do a couple of major writing projects in the next couple of weeks. One's a vary detailed and writing-intensive job application.
-- My New Year's resolution is learning to be a better (and more diverse) cook. And I've actually been making progress
OK, enough for now. I'm currently in a songwriting MOOC, and students are required to evaluate each other's work, and my evals are due tomorrow. So I'm off to grade some songs
