thorbol and I are currently getting ready to treak to Boxborough for Concertino, the once-every-three-years Boston-area filk con. 1 I'll be spending the weekend seeing cool people, hearing lots of interesting songs, and hopefully not spending too much money in the dealers' room. 2
And I'll also be singing. There are segments of the program in which anyone can get up to present a song or two, and I've been working on "Persephone", a beautiful song by Michelle Dockrey. It's the kind of song that not only has lovely music and lyrics, but also rewards in-depth work (of which I haven't done nearly enough). Within this short song, I've discovered in Persephone's character desire, playfulness, sadness, anger, rebelliousness, and longing. You can tell a good work of art when, the more time you spend looking at it, the *more* you want to cry because it's so gorgeous. Truly, I could have done this as a scene study for my acting class, if only I'd had an accompanist. I only hope I'll be able to do it justice when it's my turn to sing.
I want to get Vixy and Tony (Michelle Dockrey and her music partner, Tony Fabris) for Arisia. Anyone with me?
Back Monday!
1. Concertino is part of the Rolling Northeast Filk Con, which alternates every three years between the Boston area and two other places in the northeast.
2. I probably won't actually be able to buy many CDs, because it doesn't look like there will be many dealers to sell them to me.
