Disappointing blueberries

Blueberries are one of the things I look forward to about summer. Not only are they delicious, but I'm sentimental about them: when I was growing up, we would sometimes visit my aunt, who had a farm with lots of blueberries. Of course you can get them all year long now, but I'm certainly not paying $2.50 for a 4-ounce package!

The last time I was at Trader Joe's, I found out they have large boxes of blueberries for a lot less, even at this time of year. So yesterday, when thorbol was going to TJ's, I asked him to pick me up a package. It was $5.98 for a pound and a half.

This morning I had some. They were almost flavorless. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they'd been previously frozen, then thawed. In fact, they were almost a chore to eat.

I'll try TJ's blueberries again in the summer, but probably not before. Guess we haven't annihilated seasonal differences in food after all. Probably a good thing, since there's still new yumminess to look forward to in each part of the year.
