Yes, it rained practically the whole time. But it turned out to be a really relaxing getaway nonetheless.
It didn't look promising. Not only was it raining, but our driver's car had a brake problem, which she discovered on her way to us. So she had to call another TaskRabbit to do the job at the last minute. She kept saying how bad she felt for us because of the weather, and how much she'd been looking forward to spending the day with us. Instead she ended up waiting for an hour outside our house for AAA to show up. The replacement TaskRabbit was very nice and competent, and we got to the hotel just before four PM on Tuesday.
We stayed at the Sea Crest Beach Hotel in North Falmouth. I highly recommend it, mainly because the staff was so friendly and accommodating. For instance: Since Wednesday wasn't a good day for the beach, we spent a lot of time in the indoor swimming pool. I have a love-hate relationship with swimming pools: I love being in the water, but I'm terrified of being over my head. So they found me a flotation belt, and I was able to cavort like a happy little fishm while
thorbol, who knows what he's doing, swam laps. Thursday morning I wanted to do a mile on the treadmill. I needed a lot of help, since the controls on the treadmills were largely visual, so one of the attendants did help me through the whole thing.
They have an excellent breakfast buffet, including some kickass waffles. And when we were in the restaurants, the staff all acted like they were happy to be there and enjoyed what they were doing. And the beds were comfortable.
The beach is right outside. I'm sorry we didn't get to experience it. (Well, we could have, but it wouldn't have been any fun in the rain!)
Thursday our original driver had borrowed another car, so she was able to come and get us. We went to lunch at a local place; my chicken salad sandwich came on toasted sourdough garlic bread (yum). On the way home we stopped for ice cream at The Ice Cream smith, a Dorchester place that we don't get to very often because it's so far away from our house.
And of course, as soon as we were driving away from the Cape, the sun came out and it got nice and warm. But we'd had a nice enough time that I wasn't even that annoyed.
