I heart band!

The quotes of the day are provided by the UMR Marching Band, the greatest source of entertainment at football games

Sung to "Miss American Pie"
"...and there's a flag on the play/ and the good ole' boys drinkin' whiskey and rhye/ saying "this'll be the play that I cry...""

Give me a D!
D!
Give me an A!
A!
Give me a T!
T!
Give me an E!
E!
What's that spell?
DATE!
What's that mean!
Score! Score! Score!

Give me a B!
B!
Give me a R!
Arrrrgh!
Give me an A!
A!
What's that spell?
Bra!
What's that mean?
Hold em! Hold em! Hold em!

There's another cheer for "Thrust".
It means "throw the ball DEEPER! DEEPER! DEEPER!"

Then there's how the band plays with the cheerleaders.
"Hey, Cheerleaders!"
"Hey, what?"
"Hey, Cheerleaders!"
"Hey, what?"
"We want YOU to hug the Chancellor!"
The cheerleaders gamely processed from the track and climbed into the stands to hung our new chancellor, who has been on the job for about three weeks. Welcome to UMR, Chancellor!
So, the cheerleaders decided to have some fun with the band, only they subjected their cohorts, their dance team the Gold Miners, to the band.
"Hey, Gold miners!"
"Hey, what?"
"Hey, Goldminers!"
"Hey, what?"
"We want YOU to hug the band!"
Band: "Hell, yeah!" followed by a stampede that is stopped by Dr. Miller, the director.
"Hey, Gold Miners!"
"Hey, what!"
"We wan YOU to come up here!"
So the Gold Miners processed into the stands to hug the band.

Then there was the problem with the signs. Ya see, the male Cheerleaders had signs they held up with words for the crowd to yell. Only one of the male Cheerleaders was a returner, and he forgot about the band's habit of yelling any words they see at any given time. So they had the signs for "Touch Down" out, but the "Down" sign was on the ground where the band couldn't see it. So the band, being the band, started yelling "Touch!" repeatedly over and over again until the returner Cheerleader figured out what was going on. Then the "Down" sign got left out for a minute, then the "M" from "UMR" got left out, causing the band to yell "MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!" until the sign was put up. Apparenly one time last year, the signs for "Touch" and "Miner" got left out at the same time, resulting in quite a bit of hilarity, since our mascot, Joe Miner, was out and about at the game.

God love the band!
