Yesterday, my class launched it's legacy project - Spine Magazine, an online collection of blogs, reviews, opinion columns and feature articles. It was a lot of fun! The school catered a lunch and all of our profs came, some partners and parents joined us, even the chair of the school was there. They created something called the Helvetica Awards, and gave out and honourable mention (a certificate and an book) and a 1st place prize ( a certificate and a $50 gift card to the school's bookstore) to all five categories of writing on the site. A lot of my good friends in the class won something, which was awesome. I won first place, myself, for my feature article on the only all female tattoo shop in the Ottawa/Gatineau area. I was chosen as the winner by Ann Silversides, a writer and broadcast journalist.
I know a lot of people with tattoos and a few who make them for a living. The comments section on
my article is probably the most active, since the link to it was posted on the shop's facebook page. I was wondering if any of you might want to read it and comment on things like atmosphere leading to more pleasant experience? It's up to you what you say, but I'd love some more active comments.
For those of you who are curious about the writing that my class has been working on all semester, feel free to browse
Spine Online.
