because the election alone wasn't enough drama...

Oh, Grey’s.  You and your never-ending drama.  It almost makes me feel a little bad for continually wishing that Hahn would just go away already.  I mean, seriously, Grey’s.  Controversy, much?

So, yeah.  There’s to be no more Hahn.  On the one hand, I don’t mind at all.  Grey’s has about four hundred characters too many, and Hahn would’ve been my first pick for most expendable.  Erica Hahn just doesn’t intrigue me at all.  She swings back and forth between mean and awkward most of the time, and, while I thought the Callie/Hahn storyline was handled fairly well last week, her adventure into lesbianism with Callie has generally been nothing but cringe-worthy and boring, sometimes both at once.  Getting rid of this storyline frees up precious minutes for the other good storylines.  (Can we get Mer/Der at the top of the Magical Extra Screentime List, already?  Please?)

For the most part, it seems like ABC made a wise decision because Hahn really was an expendable character and her storyline wasn’t doing anything for the show.  It felt more gimmicky than anything else to me.  Very, “Look!  Girls kissing!  See how cutting edge we are?!"  I want to view this as a smart decision by TPTB and a sign that they really can let go of a character that isn’t working occasionally instead of just obsessively signing on every damn guest star that walks through the doors of Seattle Grace.  Especially if the show wants to get back to the feel of old school Grey’s - trimming off some of the cast bloat is a good idea.  However, there’s a part of me that’s a little anxious given the rumors that they’re apparently making Sadie straight now.  If ABC got rid of Hahn because of a sudden, overwhelming need to de-gay their shows (and not because her character is just rather dull), then I am less than impressed with them, to say the least.

I’m leaning towards it being more of a character-based decision though.  If Sadie was being brought in to stir things up in the Callie/Hahn relationship, well…that’s obviously not going to work anymore.  She needs to go in another direction, and I don’t want that other direction to be Callie/Sadie due to my overwhelming need for Callie and Mark to just get it together already and fall for each other.  And, speaking of Callie?  The rumors that they are getting rid of Callie too need to stay rumors.  She CANNOT go.  She’s steadily climbed her way up into the list of characters I love and adore, and I will have to cry a lot if she is gone.  Also, ABC?  If you get rid of Hahn AND Callie?  You really will be de-gaying your show, and that’s just not cool.

It does seem rather abrupt, especially for Brooke Smith, and that kinda makes me want to give her a hug.  (I don’t hate you, Brooke.  I’m just really, really bored by Hahn.)  However, that doesn’t necessarily mean there will be tons of loose ends and a sloppy, unexplained exit despite it feeling abrupt to us fans.  The whole Izzie and Hahn heart fiasco we’ve got coming up seems like it could provide the perfect exit strategy for her character.  We’ll see how things play out Thursday I guess.

Also, also…  On a happier, squeeful note, now we’re down a cardio surgeon, and just…Mary McDonnell.  I know her arc hasn’t even started yet, but since Hahn’s gone can we keep McDonnell forever?  Please, Show?  We’ll have an opening for a cardiothoracics attending, and she’s coming in as a cardio surgeon.  I mean, how perfect is that?!  (This makes me think that Shonda & Co. have known about the end of Hahn for awhile, even if Brooke just found out.  They’ve got her replacement ready and waiting in the wings.  And really, if you knew ahead of time Shonda?  You could have strived for classier than this.)  But yes, Mary McDonnell.  I mean she’s Laura frakking Roslin, people.  There’s no way she can be anything less than utterly and completely amazing.  (Please tell me someone else out there also watches BSG and understands my need to fangirl most heartily over her.)  Despite everything I tend to feel in terms of cast bloat, she could become a regular and I would not complain at all.

In other, non-TV news…ELECTION DAY.  Gah.  I’m so very excited and nervous.  I hope everyone voted, dear flist.  I did, and it was most satisfying.  Now I just have to sit around crossing my fingers and toes and holding my breath hoping that I will not have to hate the politics of my fellow citizens come tomorrow.  Oh, Obama.  Please win.

And lastly, in other non-news news, I have a psych test tomorrow morning.  Over seven chapters.  Of which I have read a grand total of zero.  Oh, massive, epic failure.  I do not think I will get to sleep tonight.  This means that the next chapter to Love in the Time of Science (I need some sort of handy abbreviation for this title…any ideas?) may take a little longer to be written.  But I will get back to actively not studying as soon as I can.

And, because it cannot be said enough…  Oh, Grey’s.  You really are such a drama whore.

EDIT: OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!!! :D  AMERICA, ILU RIGHT NOW!!!!!

grey's anatomy, we're adults: when did that happen?, ooh gossip!, spoiler!whore
