I'll try to keep things short since we're all going through post D*C decompression. I'm also a total liar. ;)
I headed to ATL on Wednesday after a short 2 hours at work and made it to Gail's around 6-ish. Pete met me at the door and we chatted a bit before Gail and Nate made it home. We had dinner that night at Ted's where we pretty much had the best waitress ever. EVER. We also found out that Pete has no clue how to walk through revolving doors. I think he was secretly trying to kill Gail and myself, but I have no proof...yet.
Thursday was a whirlwind of activity. Loaded up the car, schlepped down to the Sheraton, unloaded the car, checked in, took two seconds to go 'omg I'm tired already', then went to the Hilton for the staff meeting at 2pm. Aaaaaaand no one was there except Trevor. Apparently we had just missed the Gang of Fools by 20 minutes so Trevor and I killed time with a space ship building game. Finally we had some peeps and things commenced. By 6:30 I was free to do as I pleased until midnight Friday (ok really it was midnight Saturday morning. whatev.) I met up with Tohma, Lionel, and Adam for some Happy GOGO Yip Yip time! We weren't in costume long (fugging hot) but it was enough to do few laps around the Marriott. We had two great moments. One was when an amazing Prof Snape let us gather around him. He petted us and called us his children. *squee!*. Then we 'harassed' a gothic looking kid who barked at us. Why was this a great moment? Because I saw him an hour later after I was out of costume. I looked him dead in the eyes and went 'Yipyipyip!'. The look on his face was priceless!!
Friday I basically tried to smash everything I wanted to do into one day with some success. I hung out with Terrance and his honey while waiting for the Walk of Fame to open. I saw a few actors go by like Billy Dee Williams, the green Power Ranger, and the (not fat anymore) fat witch from Hocus Pocus (she's also the voice of Peggy Hill which I never knew). Bonus: she saw my reaction to recognizing her as she walked in the room, stopped, and came back to say hi. HI!! *omg!socool!!* However that was NOTHING compared to what happened when WoF opened. I mentioned to Terrance that I wanted to get Marina Sirtis' autograph. "Well she's right there." O_O Yup, she was there and with only 6 people in line. JOY! T and his man wandered off while I got my auto. Ms. Sirtis was glorious! She shook my hand on her own (she reached out first), told me I looked 20 years old, and then gave me a hug when I started crying. The woman is so amazing!! As I was walking back to find Terrance I broke again and cried more. It was very emotional and I'm glad no one took pictures lol.
After calming down I went back to the room and changed into Mimi (a la Drew Carey). I had a few pings with her, but there would have been more if I had a Drew. I think I'll try and dig one up for next year and see what happens. Anyway, my friend Marci and I bopped around for a bit while she took pictures (it was her first D*C). I think we went to the Artist Alley while I was in costume...kinda fuzzy about that. I do know that I got the latest book from Devil's Panties and two prints from JL8.
BLANK SPOT IN MY MEMORY
At some point I ended up in the Dealer's Room with Kim (and a brief wave from Mary). I only got one thing (a Pop! figure of Pinkie Pie), then Kim and I went off to a Brazilian steak house for dinner. That place made me faaaaaaat and sleepy. Thankfully we were back to the hotel in time to relax a bit before my shift.
Saturday was fun but BUSY. My shift wasn't until 3:30 so I headed to the Mass Effect photo shoot. I oggled Mark Meer (yum!) and met up with Bean Bunny, writer of MSPixel. It was an awkward moment because I didn't know what she looked like, only that she was going to be in Shepard gear. When I finally spotted her she was talking to someone else and I kind of yelled her name. -_-; Way to make an impression Morgan.
Past that it was running the costume contest. I honestly feel this was the HARDEST year judging ever. Everyone did such amazing jobs. There were so many outstanding costumes it was nearly impossibly to pick just a few. I can't wait to see what happens next year!
Saturday night was our BIG party. I do mean BIG. We ran the Heroes and Villains ball in the Sheraton and I'd be shocked if we didn't break last year's attendance record. I was working the VIP entrance so I was able to watch the line. It was about 30-50 people deep right up until 1am. There was some drama, but nothing too tragic. I'm hoping we'll either move to a bigger ballroom or get more staffers to help though because if we get any larger things could get messy.
Sunday was le tired day. After the busy Ball I only scored about 4 hours sleep because I need to sit in on a 10am panel. There was some play time where I tried desperately to be tired enough to take a nap (didn't work). On the bright side I got into MKE and wandered around with Kim. Funny enough I think most people didn't realize that I was THE MKE and just thought I was a Klingon with a strange sense of humor.
Kim and I went to the WoF and ended up getting in line for George Takei. He is SO COOL!!!! He's very down to earth and excellent to talk to. While in line an adorable little girl in a Cinderella costume asked to have her picture taken with me. She was so cute!! I couldn't stop grinning. :D Following George we hit up Raphael Sbarge's table where I got a quick pic and a NICE hug. The man can seriously hug. Smells good too. *purr* Hmm, sorry? Was I saying something? Oh yes, so anyway I had to head back for a quick shower then another shift. The Darkmoon Faire lurked ahead. It was hella fun even for being as worn out as I was (I seriously had a breakdown just before setup). I think it all went off very well even with the hiccups and there's already talk about what to do for next year.
Monday was Monday. I said my good-byes and teared up a little. I need to start staying over till Tuesday though because the rush is getting to be too much for me. I never go back to work till Wednesday anyway so I might as well...
Anyhoo, I had a fantastic time and I look forward to next year. Our track is re-branding to Online Gaming, which opens up a whole new world of possibilities including console gaming. I think it'll be fun, and if my intuition is right we'll be busting down some sweet attendance numbers. Huzzah!
