T'was the day after Christmas, and I am taking a day off, from everything. It is quite a perfect day for it - there is a winter storm warning on, and the snow started to waft down at 10:30 this morning. It seems as though I have been running flat out for the last month. This is, in fact, quite true.
First, there was the preparation for the "open house", and as the time got closer, the more I had to do. All in all it was a success, I feel. Friends came up from Dartmouth, and brought her Mother along: Lita was esconsed in the comfy chair in the living room, and plyed with munchies and tea. I think she really enjoyed herself, and it was wonderful to see. There certainly was enough food for everyone. The table was decorated with a red cloth, white lace runner, cedar boughs and berries. We broke out the Kolsch that came to us from Germany.
I did not, however manage to make my killer eggnog, or the "hot tongs" punch. People are drinking responsibly these days, or at least the ones I know, and that is a good thing. So, I have tucked the sugar hat away, and i know I will use it sometime.
I had friends come up from work, it was wonderful, and next year will be even better.
Friday, I took my life in my hands and headed to Moncton to pick up my new glasses, and get some groceries. I was up at 6 am, on the road by 9, and home by 1 pm. I think it was some kind of record, purely because I wanted to get the hell out of there fast.
We had a Turkey Dinner with Betsy and Will on Saturday, and Dan and I had Christmas Eve off together. I worked yesterday, and had a sum total of about 6 calls all day, so we played games: I brought in CSI, and someone else brought in 3D monopoly. It made 10 hours pass by quickly. Tomorrow, I have to work too, then my usual days off, then back for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
Today, though, I don't have to go anywhere, or do anything, and other than a cursory swiffer around the house, things are in pretty good shape. I lazed in around listening to the radio this morning, then went down stairs and started a fire to take the chill off.
I went shopping online and bought myself something that I had been lusting after for quite some time the DvD of Terry Jone's The Crusades, closet history buff that I am. Other than that, I have nothing, absolutely, sweetly nothing planned at all.
cool yule,
