Wow, that was an amazing sprint today! At first I was a bit disappointed that Millar's break got caught, but that made up for it.
When I first got into cycling I thought British cyclists would never again have as much success as in the Simpson/Hoban years, but I'm glad to be wrong. Plus it's nice to have an athlete in any sport who can feed my Manx patriotism. :)
It's just amazing, 9 wins in two tours! And I haven't seen today's finish eyt but just reading about it astounds me *g*
First Manx to finish the Tour! Mind you there's another Manx boy coming up the ranks now I think *mind goes blank as to name*
I just can't quite believe he's won FIVE stages and Wiggins is in fourth and...I still remember when Max Sciandri was as good as British cycling got :P
Johnny Bellis! I knew I'd remember his name eventually *G* He's another of the kids with the GB Cycling academy lot, he rode in the Olympics last year I think.
He always used to come, like, 134th *g* you'd have to scan a long way down for his name but between Boardman and Millar he was kind of it!
I vaguely remember hearing of Bellis at the Olympics, but then I forgot. I think he was a stagiere with CSC for a while, but he's pretty young to be getting a pro contract anyway.
Sciandri and the Leeds Classic: he always used to talk the talk, get in a break and then loose. British cycling fandom in the 90s.
I think the 90s have left me with this sort of twitch so 'm STILL waiting for Wiggins and/or Cav to suddenly go backwards and they're not! :D:D:D
I wish I was going to the Tour of Britain this year to see them, it's the first eyar in ages I can't. Though I suppose theoretically they might not be there.
I only saw the first edition of the Tour of Britain. The last few years I've been in DC, and I can't even remember what came up in 2005. Seeing more cycling is one of my many things to do when I get back to Europe.

Oh, Max Sciandri. I used to follow his results so avidly, but I had completely forgotten about him for years until today.
