You know I think it's a great thing that the Conservatives are looking at the laws and conviction rates surrounding rape and looking to improve them BUT I would question whether the way to frame this debate is to suggest that it's a new problem brought on by "moral collapse" or it now being cool to sexualise women. I'm fairly certain there wasn't a Golden Age (tm) when actually rape laws worked perfectly and anyway women were so respected for themselves that rape was a rare crime.

*ponders*

I mean it's an important debate but starting from the point of blaming "society today" seems to miss all of the important points about why it is that violence against women seems to be acceptable and has pretty much always been. I suppose it's possible for a debate that is framed in an odd manner to go somewhere but I fear this one is doomed.

(I'd really recommend you don't read the "Are rapists getting away with it" link on the BBC homepage by the way, or at least not the comments, because they're exactly as bad as you'd expect if not worse *sighs*)

On the otherhand, while we're talking about women and feminism and such like there was an article linked to in a recent christianity post that was a breath of fresh air (see how that community improves!):
