My present from
miretne arrived in the post this morning :D It's the Map of Online Communities from
the XKCD store I had the most fantastic evening last night. Mum and Dad took me to the restaurant at the top of the Oxo Tower for dinner and it was just perfect. It's not the sort of price that I can see myself going back ever again any time soon but I think it was worth it.
We had a table out on the balcony and the sun had come out just enough for me to sit there in a strappy dress and only get a little chilled by the very end of the meal. We started with drinks at their bar (Apple Manhattan ♥) and then went through the the restaurant. I had Foie Gras and Ham Hock terrine (served with an orange and fennel brioche) to start and then Salmon with Fennel Gnocchi (and Sugar Snap Peas and Minted Jersey Royals which we all shared) accompanied by a rather lovely Rose wine from the Veneto. For dessert I had the Chocolate Plate (and by this point I was flagging slightly) which was four different small desserts- a chocolate shake, a chocolate mousse, a white chocolate sponge and then a chocolate fondant... all of which were lovely but the last of which was postively heavenly.
After we finished we wandered down to the newly reopened Royal Festival Hall and watched the dancing on the terrace for a bit, as well as the fountains which looked like a lot of fun had I not been wearing new shoes ;) Mum's back was hurting by then so we walked back towards Blackfriars but stopped near Gabriels Wharf as the Singing River barge approached... we only heard a tiny snatch of their singing as they were just starting up a new piece (Wade in the Water which sounded perfct drifting across the Thames to us).
If I can convince my friends this evening I think we'll go back and see what they've laid on tonight after we finish at the Globe (Othello, should be good if the reviews are to be trusted!)
