Accidentally watching the end of the first Hobbit movie because it's on and I realised because of my posting gap I never talked about finally watching all six films in order (extended versions obv!)
I mean I'm not entirely sure what it is I want to say about that.
It's so hard to separate whether the films are actually good from my own ridiculous emotional reactions. The Lord of the Rings films were such important parts of my early online life that it's hard to work out which parts of my love form them come from the films and which from the cast & crew & associated fandom.
But I do still think they are better. The Hobbit films really are dragged out a lot especially if you know the book at all. And yet saying that I do love the personal element that comes in because Lee Pace & Richard Armitage are amazing and have chemistry even halfway across a battlefield ♥
And I actually don't hate the Kili/Tauriel stuff especially because, if you read it right, it totally leads to Legolas/Gimli :-P
It does also make Gimli seem very stupid at the start of LOTR with the Moria stuff, just LOOK at the history he comes from.... the degree of blind optimism that he has given the lack of contact from Moria is completely ridiculous. But obviously also makes finding Balin's tomb the worst.
(except of course that messing with the timeline does mean that Balin was very very old by the time he died)
I should reatch LOTR more often though. It really doesn't get old and that soundtrack is so incredibly perfect. And I'd forgotten quite how intense my love of Eowyn is (even if I do use her face on my LJ/DW all the time)
I have to admit though, whilst Martin Freeman does a perfectly good job of playing Bilbo, I can;t help wondering if I'd love the films more if it had been anyone else
I don't know. I just love Tolkien and the Tolkien verse a stupid amount and that whilst on holiday I think
seiyaharris fell into a Hobbit fanfiction hole and I fell into a Silmarillion hole. Again. It happens quite often (oh Galadriel if I'd ever written a terrible LOTR chapter epic it would be the whole damn history of Middle Earth from your perspective read about her adventures here), catch up on Doctor Who (finally) and read all of The Hanging Tree (also finally).
Tomorrow... tomorrow is also mercifully empty but there really are some dull adulting things I should do. Still. At least other than church I don't actually HAVE to go outside unless I choose.
