So many things I meant to post about this week and so many things I meant to do this afternoon but none of them have happened (well a few of them have) HOWEVER I did have a wonderful morning because for Christmas I gave Dad tickets for the Engineering Tour at Tower Bridge and he very kindly let me go with him :-P
I was INCREDIBLY brave and went over the glass walkway which turned out to be not nearly as bad as heading down the tiny metal spiral staircase to the accumulators & bascules etc. (but I survived that too)(and so did Dad despite falling and injuring his knee the day before)
Tower Bridge engineering tour pictures
Heading to Tower Bridge through the grey...
View from the east walkway
Looking down through the glass walkway
Mirrored ceiling over glass walkway (very trippy)
Levers from the old hydraulic opening system
Heading down into the workings of the bridge...
One of the accumulators (like a giant battery only full of water)
The under side of the south bascule (ie don't be here when the bridge is lifting!)
One of the engines
After the tour we went and grabbed lunch at the Blackfriars Tavern which is always lovely, I did try and take a photo but my phone camera couldn't cope with the low light.
