Been finding the update button weirdly intimidating recently so I'm going for the some random things in my head style of posting and we'll see.
Yesterday
seiyaharris took me to the City of London Distillery for a tour (awesome birthday present *g*) which was great. I mean after having the tasting last year and then again at Nine Worlds this year some of the history I know quite well now though each time they manage to find something new plus it's interesting hearing the stories of the different companies. CoLD has a fab bar too, it's on Bride Lane and they make an awesome gin cocktail plus you can try all their gins including their version of Old Tom which you can otherwise only buy at the Dorchester.
We then had a ridiculous conversation about the intersection between hipsters and nerds because you wouldn't think there was one bu aesthetically the bar (& the super cute tour guide) were absolutely hipster stereotypes but there was this HUGE enthusiasm for gin which was entirely non-ironic and that's such a nerd thing and I think why I love things like this? IDK. We talked about why you can't make decent tea infused spirits or cocktails and how that's a bit of a dream <3
What else? Oh I know!
For years Dad has told me about a wonderful short story he once read where the alphabet changes through the story so by the end it's almost unreadable (or IS unreadable unless you've read the story and then you pick it up as you go through). He's never been able to find it but he had a sudden inspiration this week and finally did.
It's called Meihem in ce Klasrum and us actually an essay from an edition of Astounding Science Fiction Anthology. It was written by W.K. Lessing in 1946 and published under the pesudonym Dolton Edwards and it's GREAT fun. If you've read Ella Minnow Pea I guess you'll be familiar with the idea (and if you havem't it's a great book too!). Anyway someone's helpfully typed it up so
go read it! It really is only short.
Otherwise life in general is basically a giant ball of stress but in theory if I can make it to the start of October everything will be better? And that's... actually let's not count how far away that is because it will make me panic (in both directions) /o\ I have a bunch of awesome things scattered through those weeks too to keep me sane starting with more Jamie Parker tomorrow at Cadogan Hall :D
What's happening in your worlds?
