So they've just announced the 2015 summer season at the Globe- Dominic Dromgoole's last season :-( of course if you look back far enough on my LJ you'll find me being heartbroken about Mark Rylance leaving and then unconvinced by Dominic Dromgoole coming but he's done an incredible job at the Globe and he'll be sorely missed!

Anyway. The new season is called "Justice & Mercy" which is a good start!

James Dacre is directing King John which will tour (including a trip to Inner Temple Church) and which is the one thing I was certain was happening next summer- it's the last play in the canon that hasn't been performed (in English) at the Globe and Dominic wanted to complete the set *g*

(they also appear to be touring Romeo & Juliet and Much Ado so that's nice)

Then we have Globe to Globe visits from the National Theatre of China performing Richard III in Mandarin and Hong Kong’s Tang Shu-wing Theatre Studio bringing Macbeth in Cantonese. I heard brilliant things about that Richard III even without costumes so I'll definitely be giving those a try!

The new plays are The Heresy of Love by Helen Edmundson (technically this isn't "new" given the RSC did it at the Swan already but still) and Nell Gwynn by Jessica Swale that I knew was coming but I'm glad it's going to be next summer <3 and then thirdly a new version of the Oresteia directed by Adele Thomas and given how much I loved The Knight of the Burning Pestle I'm excited even though they haven't actually said who the new version is by (unless I missed it!)

Then of course you have the Shakespeare, FOUR plays this time (plus King John I guess) Richard II directed by Simon Godwin, As You Like It directed by Blanche McIntyre, The Merchant of Venice directed by Jonathan Munby and finally Measure for Measure directed by Dominic Dromgoole.

My exact feelings on those will develop with the casting but I've only seen Measure for Measure once and that was at the Globe with an all male cast so it will be interesting to see again! As You Like It I've seen recently at the RSC and Richard II too but they're both plays I like and the Merchant of Venice is always an interesting one.

Plus they also gave the bonus announcements that the Isango Ensemble, Mark Rylance, Trystan Gravelle and John Dove all have projects linked to the Playhouse coming which makes me stupidly happy <3 (I mean I knew about Mark already but still!)

Meanwhile the World!Hamlet tour continues (they're in Uruguay atm) and they'll announce Dominic Dromgoole's successor in the Spring and I have no idea who it will be so that will be interesting.
