I am so very very tired right now and yet wide awake. Sleeping not in my own room is having a not so brilliant impact on my sleep pattern /o\ however I'm excited for the point next week when I have a shiny new room <3
Anyway today's beautiful thing comes courtesy of John Donne. I'm reading a book of his poetry at the moment and have discovered a few gems but I've also re-discovered a few poems I've always loved and this is one of them.
Admittedly it's quite a sad beauty at the moment because it feels very appropriate to any number of current news stories but I do love it very much.
No Man Is An Island
No man is an island,
Entire of itself,
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thy friend's
Or of thine own were:
Any man's death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind,
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee.
(it's actually part of a much longer thing-
Meditation XVII which is worth reading although I like the famous bit best)
My other beautiful thing today is the team relationships on NCIS LA because I still love my shiny little show even now it's just as likely to make me cry (or at least become unbelievably tense) as it is to make me laugh.
