I've spent all day rushing around like a mad thing to fit in 3 services, a 40th Birthday party, tea with a friend and also actually having lunch and then at the end of it all I sat with my parents and we lit the first candle on our Advent Wreath and read about stillness and I tried very hard not to laugh at the fact that the thing stopping me being Still and Quiet today wasn't so much the coming of Christmas as the current Advent :-/
But that said I've heard so much beautiful music today, sung gorgeous Advent hymns, heard wonderful prayers and readings and seen friends and at least it's the right sort of busy-ness maybe?
Anyway here's a poem I read earlier this year and saved for the start of Advent:
The Glory by Madeleine L’Engle
Without any rhyme
without any reason
my heart lifts to light
in this bleak season
Believer and wanderer
caught by salvation
stumbler and blunderer
into Creation
In this cold blight
where marrow is frozen
it is God’s time
my heart has chosen
In paradox and story
parable and laughter
find I the glory
here in hereafter
I hope some of you have had calmer days that I have *g*
poem,
advent
