(Romeo & Juliet) Lady Capulet, Juliet- Rosy cheeks

It's cold outside the house. Time to come inside and sit by the fire (although always behind a screen, she may be a married woman but her complexion is still perfect) and yet Juliet is nowhere to be seen.

She walks to the window and looks out over the beautiful knot garden her husband had planted for her when Juliet was only a tiny baby. A garden meant for mother and daughter to share quiet walks and yet Juliet is dashing along the paths with no thought to the grace or decorum her mother has tried to teach her.

She dreamed of her future when Juliet was still a babe in arms. There would be sons to follow their father and Juliet to sit beside her and sew and read to her and be a companion but instead she's running, always running, and her old nurse is puffing along behind her and her mother is inside alone.

When she finally comes in and collapses on a seat beside her mother her cheeks are flushed red and her eyes are sparkling. She looks beautiful.

"You should be more careful my child," Lady Capulet speaks carefully. "You will damage your complexion and then who will want you?"

Juliet is beautiful and will soon be 14 years old. This is the year they must find a husband for her. Someone who will be better at keeping her still than her mother.
