I've been trying for weeks to write a post about the whole LJ/twitter/facebook crossover fiasco and My Feelings About Yaoi Anonymity On the Internet only as metafandom returns from its hiatus it turns out someone kind of wrote most of it already!

A Tale of Two Internets (nikkiscarlet)

Well. I have to admit that I stop agreeing with her when she gets to the little Dreamwidth plug at the bottom of the post for all kinds of reasons but just ignore that bit and focus on the Web 1.0 v. Web 2.0 stuff.

*waits for you to go read that post*

Because that is exactly why it unnerves me, I'm grew up with Web 1.0 and I felt comfortable with it and even though facebook et al. have been around for years now putting my real name online with details of my life where anyone can see them still feels wrong.

I like the separation between "morganmuffle" and "real name" and I know for me it's getting quite blurred in places but I want there still to be some kind of separation! I like having this space where I can hang out and it's not immediately findable by work colleagues or random acquaintances or nosey parkers *g* They don't need to know the details of my fandoms or my crushes on random actors or my obsession with Bang Goes The Theory or any of the rest of it!
