a taste of Greek

here is one example of my life, writ small:

During the private training session with the drill sargent:

DS: So why is this verb aorist?

Me: *shit. One of these three verbs is aorist? I know they're all subjunctive, but I don't even know which one is aorist!* "umm. for simple aspect?"

DS: Well, I guess there is some hint of aspect, but I think it's a gnomic aorist.

Then later, in class:

Classmate 1: translate translate translate

Classmate 2: I guess I had a question on this sentence, I was wondering why this verb was aorist?

DS: Yes! it's gnomic!

Me: SERIOUSLY?????
