Fandom March Madness was made in response to the real march madness college basketball brackets that are everywhere this month. Which a lot of people in fandom don't care about, I guess. lol. Basically the person who started it chooses a bunch of fandoms, traditionally tv shows, this year she included some of the big book/movie fandoms also. First round people vote on which major character from each fandom should represent the fandom. Then each character is assigned a (random) spot on a bracket, like real march madness, and go head-to-head with another character. And you basically vote for your favorite, the winner continuing to the next round, the loser being eliminated, until there's one character left standing.
The other part of Fandom March Madness is that in the comments, people rooting for a particular character try to convince others to vote for their character. The whole thing is basically an excuse to make and use gifs, picspams, fandvids, etc. and flail. lol.
I don't really make them myself, but I like seeing what other people come up with. I guess it's also only fun when one actually knows/cares about the characters/fandoms in the game. I know last year the characters I liked got knocked out early on, and I lost interest.
