I'm all back into the Manics again. Blame their new album, and
kal_ella, who expressed an interest in the great literary tragedy that is Nicky and Richey.
The new album is all kinds of bizarre. I mean, it's the Manics trying to be mainstream, for a lot of it [musically, at least], and they totally bring in a gospel choir. Yes. A gospel choir. What? Who the fuck DOES that?
Then I realized that it's been fifteen years and Nicky is still calling Richey 'baby' like he only left yesterday. I guess they have a right to do weird shit. Otherwise they'd run a serious risk of rehashing themselves.
Musically, that is. Since all Nicky's written about for years is, well, Richey.
If he were anyone other than himself I'd have stopped reading long ago. But then, he does have a way with regretful self-loathing.
Wow, I just realized that the opening to 'It's Not War (Just the End of Love)' sounds exactly like 'Little Baby Nothing'. Maybe they ARE rehashing themselves.
