Yuletide Letter

Dear Yuletide Writer,

So, you've got me for a recipient, and that's awesome. For me. I hope it will be reasonably pleasant for you as well. What do I like? Things. And also stuff. Plot! Banter! Character exploration! Pretty prose! Really, play to your strengths and you'll be fine. My life is one long series of wringing glee out of everything.

Few things I wouldn't like to see: explicit sex and gratuitous violence, because they're just not my thing, and character bashing and general mistreatment of characters and issues, because they're just not cool.

And now let's get into fandom specifics.

RED

Backstory about Ivan and Victoria? Post-movie story about Ivan and Victoria? Anything. I am so charmed by them, I can't even tell you.

Really nothing to add? Except that obviously if this is the request you're filling, you have an awful lot of leeway for "gratuitous" violence, since I kind of went to see that movie on the basis of "Helen Mirren with guns! I need this in my life!" A good, good decision. Then there was unexpected Brian Cox unexpectedly speaking Russian fairly competently and then -- ! Like I said, endlessly charming. Nothing about rival spies in love will ever be unsatisfying to me.

The Robot novels

Because, really, Susan Calvin is wonderful and should have all kinds of stories written about her, and who else would she be paired with, if not Stephen Byerley?

I just really want this to exist. Because to my knowledge, it doesn't. And that is sad. I mean, yes, I'm responsible for something like 40% of the Elijah/Daneel I know of, but that's out there. Susan Calvin? Nothing. So just go for it, writer, and I'll be happy.

The Fountainhead

I have a lot of feelings about Gail. And also Gail and Roark. And if you write them together for me, all of my feelings for you will be joy and adoration!

I also have a lot of feelings about Ayn Rand, but I'm not going to get into them right now. They're messy. Largely negative. To the point where if you wanted to with an alternate ending for Gail's storyline, I would be so, so okay with that. Also if you include Dominique, be good to her. I would also totally be okay with a threesome, which is of course the obvious solution.

The Good Wife

After a great deal of initial hesitation -- the entirety of the first season, really -- I SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING found myself wanting Cary and Kalinda together RIGHT NOW. So that would be good. Also good would be Kalinda on her own or with a lady of your choosing. If you think you can make it work, Kalinda/Diane is a kind of inexplicable passion of mine.

And nothing to add here either, really.

the forties in spaaaace!, ayn rand's tag for my own good, the tv machine, blatant fangirling, yuletide 2010, writerly things
