SYNOPSIS
Eve Channing takes a job as Assistant Librarian in the small upstate town of Ebenezer, where cell phones are a joke and real estate seems to be at a premium. Businesses, private homes, and town offices all share space, in an arrangement fully comprehended only by the town's absentee real estate agent, who has rented the first floor of her own house to Eve. In popular local hangout Honeysuckle Sweets (sharing quarters with the Town Court, whose operations are as mysterious as they are unpredictable), Eve meets her new neighbors and joins a few other curious souls in unraveling the mystery of the real estate agent's plans.

CAST - Primary

played by Jasika Nicole
Eve Channing

Fresh out of St. John's University with a Master's in Library Science, Eve has taken a job as Ebenezer's Assistant Librarian. She loves all books, but her particular passion is mystery novels, and in fact she devotes the odd half hour of free time to writing her own masterpiece. She's uncertain about living in a small town, but she's prepared to view it as an adventure, so naturally the mystery of the real estate agent delights her. It never occurs to her that she may be a little too inquisitive for anyone's good.

played by Burn Gorman
Arnold Honeysuckle

With a name like his, Arnold is almost embarrassed that his life calling is being a pastry chef. Still, he's the owner and manager of Honeysuckle Sweets, a popular cafe specializing in cupcakes (and the county's best hot chocolate). Generally polite and easygoing, he is prepared to unleash his fury at anything that interrupts his work, and he has a stormy relationship with the town justice, who holds court in the cafe far too often for Arnold's preference.

played by Harry Lennix
Virgil Barton-Day

Virgil is the affable but eccentric Town Justice, whose offices and courtroom border on Honeysuckle Sweets' kitchen. He holds official trials in his courtroom two days a month, though the days are always different and never announced in advance. No one worries about missing the official dates, however, since Justice Barton-Day can always be convinced to preside in a corner of the cafe. He can't imagine why Arnold is hostile towards him, especially with the amount of business he brings in with his impromptu trials.

played by Amanda Root
Euphemia V. Birch

The Town Supervisor, Vivi (would you like to be called Euphemia?) has a wickedly sharp wit that she enjoys exercising on people who wander into her office in search of Newspapers and Periodicals (the town hall being in the same building as the library). She takes the real estate agent's erratic arrangements as a personal affront, though her ostentatious rudeness never seems to accomplish anything. She also runs an antiques shop, situated in the basement of the town's church.

played by Ayesha Dharker
Sonali Chaturvedi

Sonali, being an orderly and methodical person, is frustrated by the town's chaos but entirely willing to take advantage of it. Aside from being Justice Barton-Day's secretary, she also assists Mr. Honeysuckle in the kitchen and at the register. Before Eve's arrival, she was also filling the role of Town Clerk. She can be short-tempered, but all of her employers hold her in awe for her skill. She quickly befriends Eve, in whom she sees a kindred spirit.

played by C. Thomas Howell
Jonathan Swansea

Jon is the town's librarian and also the deputy supervisor. He's a distant and vague man of a professor-ish disposition, who devotes any spare attention to his ten-year-old daughter Jillian. He may or may not own Sophie-Charlotte and Cicero, the two cats who freely roam the library.

played by Matt Czuchry
Benjamin Fleet

Benjy is the youthful music teacher of Ebenezer Day School (grades K-8). A talented piano player (though hopeless composer), he dreams of starting his own band and often tries to poach talent from the town, from glass harp aficionado Arnold to violin prodigy Jillian Swansea.

played by Tilda Swinton
Magda Havasi

Very little is known about Ms. Havasi, the mysterious real estate agent. Her appearances in the town are brief, infrequent, and unpredictable. She leaves confusion and not a little superstition in her wake.
