Yesterday it started. (Ethan is currently 6 months old!)

Ethan is now officially chatting at us! He is saying "da da da da da da da." And "na na na na na." He is also talking to his toys. He started doing this yesterday evening while we were having dinner. Just spontenanously chatting.

He is also very close to rolling over by himself. So far I've been helping him put his arm in the right place and mimicing him putting his head to the side and showing up how to do it. If I put him in the right position he can do it. And usually only for the first few minutes I put him on his belly. Once he has been there a few minutes, like more than 5 minutes, then he starts getting tired and he can't figure out how to roll over. He gets upset then. And it doesn't seem to me that having him lay there kicking and whining is very productive so I usually only let him get that way for a few minutes. But the light is definitely coming on. He is right at the door... a little more practice and he'll be there.

This is always a fun milestone. All these things all at once.

Today when I started giving him his evening meal of baby rice cereal, he was not very motivated to eat. He was easily distracted and getting him to open his mouth was a bit of a challenge. I knew he was hungry but he just wouldn't open his trap to eat the food. He wanted to look at mommy's wedding ring, look around the room, grab the bowl, look at the spoon with the food on it. Everything but open his mouth. (Laughs) Definitely into exploring mode. Which is really cute, but yeah, open your mouth son and eat your food. ehheeh

So far that I can tell, his eye color still hasn't made up it's mind yet on whether or not it will be blue or brown. He is definitely not as blue as he was though. One eye was more brown than the other a few months ago. In some pictures you could definitely see he had one blue eye and one brown one. But the playing field has definitely leveled up here so the blue is slowly fading. We'll just have to see what color they get to. It's probably going to be either like mommy and daddy's hazel, or brown. Or who knows, we could end up with green?

Mike thinks Ethan knows what "smile" means. Because whenever he says that word to Ethan, he smiles. eheh He definitely knows his name, when you say it he looks.

He definitely has preferences for Mommy and Daddy. He plays with daddy, he eats with mommy. He gets excitable with Daddy, he wants Mommy when he is upset. He has his own little mind of his own. If you try to give him something that he doesn't want... or you don't give him want he wants when he wants it, he gets cranky and fussy. This could be when he is hungry he doesn't want his diaper changed. If you put him down for a change, he definitely cries his disapproval.

He has also figured out how to "fake" something is wrong. He coughs to get attention. Sometimes this IS genuine. But more often lately he fakes that he needs attention by coughing. He is my little faker! (Laugh)

Ethan has also had a running/snotty nose. I figure this is due to the cooler weather lately. He hasn't started running a fever but he sneezes a lot. I've put a humidifier on in his room any time he is down for a nap. So far the humidifier has been really helpful in clearing out the nose issues. Strange how that is. It's usually very dry here anyhow, but when the weather changes every one gets a little stuffy and the baby especially. And having a humidifier in his sleeping quarters, instant help. So that is also making me happy cause Ethan has yet to get a cold and I'd like to avoid one still.

He is still being mostly breast fed, except the one meal he gets of baby rice cereal. I have no idea how much he is weighing right now because I haven't yet been to the doctor's office to see how much he weighs. Yeah, been having a little bit of a time for the first time in 4 years with my doctor. This fall I've had the one appointment for the baby rescheduled 3 times for various unforseen reasons on both my part and the doctor's. Weird.

But according to my measurements he is 27 inches long, head measures about 16 inches around, he weighs according to our scale somewhere between 16 and 18 pounds. The doctor's office scale always says more so he probably is.

I mostly cloth diaper him. But since I moved up to the next size... mediums... which I only have about 11 of them, sometimes he goes through those in a day... on the days that I'm washing the diapers and they are still wet, he is put in disposables. (I'm going to buy a few more cloth diapers this month, just didn't want to invest the whole amount all at once.) He's wearing size 2 disposables, but I think he is ready for 3s already.

I'm going to retire all my 3-6 month outfits this week because Ethan is ready for his 6-9 month outfits. I'm sad to see them go, he looks so cute in most of them. But this happens, baby's grow up.
