When Klaus was born, Violet originally thought that it was to spite her. She loves the color yellow because her mother did. She has nearly died more times then she can count, however before the Baudelaire mansion burned she'd sidestepped it exactly fourteen times (Ten of which were electricity related.) The Baudelaire children didn't go to normal school, and instead were informally tutored by their parents and instructors brought in. There's a small workshop down the hall from her bedroom that is literally filled to the rafters with things in progress. It sometimes galls Violet that she isn't more well read. She's only kissed two boys. Violet only has the vaguest ideas about sex. An 'aunt' that she didn't particularly like was the first person to give Violet peppermint candy when she was five years old. Violet's room was painted purple and white. The smell of her father's aftershave makes her unreasonably sleepy. When the mansion burned, Violet had only just started wearing bras. Her first kiss was from a neighbor's son when she was four. She really doesn't like to eat; it's something she has to do. Beatrice wore solid perfume that was in a small golden compact the size of Violet's thumbnail. Violet honestly does not believe she'll live to see her eighteenth birthday and inherit the Baudelaire Fortune that has cost so much. The ocean is one of her loves because there's literally almost nothing that can be done to hurt it.
Bertrand and Beatrice would leave for weeks at a time, leaving Violet largely in charge of her siblings. Especially after the fire, she would get so angry at Klaus that she'd want to shake him, but she never would. Somewhere between the Prufrock Prep and 667 Dark Ave Violet gave up any hope that she would have a normal life. When she and Quigley had A Moment on an icy cliff, his hand slipped up under her shirt and she liked it. Violet deeply resents her parents leaving her as a defacto parent and not giving their children the safety they should have. She's seriously considered suicide on at least six occasions. She wonders if she'll actually ever have sex. Her favorite memory is when she and Klaus were sitting on the counter in the kitchen, and her mother and father got in a flour fight while Sunny sat on the floor gnawing on a spoon. She almost never cries. She's wondered on more then one occasion if it would have been better to abandon Klaus and Sunny to the system and kill Count Olaf herself. Her shoes are size 7. The Baudelaire fortune was, if you liquidated all assets including stocks and bonds, over 200 million dollars. She thinks she's the one who pulled the trigger, even though it was dark. She's dreamt about Count Olaf like that once, and when she woke up she was sick. She has a scar on her left hip from a soldering iron. When she was six, Klaus cut a chunk out of her hair as big as his hand. She has told her parents that she hated them three times in her entire life. She only completely trusts two people in the entire world - her siblings. She can lie without blinking, even though she doesn't want too. Violet hates the smell of bubble gum. There was a point when she was eating so little that her period stopped for four months.
At one point, she asked her parents for a pony. She's had more then a couple 'weird' dreams about Klaus, and she doesn't even know what to think about them - so she doesn't. She considers herself normal. She loves stripes, specifically yellow and blue ones. She's missing some key social skills and tries to fake it. Her mother used to brush her hair and braid it for her. Her parent's bathroom floor was always cold, but it had the big bathtub. Violet would lay in the back garden for hours, staring up at the blue sky. She wishes she asked her parents to come with them that day, and blames herself for not doing so. She has nightmares or dreams of nothing that she remembers. Roast beef sandwiches are her favorite. Esme Squalor told her things about boys that didn't make any sense, largely because they were so crude that Violet didn't know what half of it meant. They never attended their parent's funerals, nor saw their bodies. Sometimes, Violet will stare into the bathroom mirror and wonder if she's beautiful. Violet has no idea how to drive, but could probably build a car given enough time and parts. There's a part of her that feels completely empty, and it scares her. She thinks she'll never have someone care about her without wondering about their motives... except Klaus. Sunny scares her sometimes. She almost stepped into the elevator shaft on purpose. She thought more then once about fighting back. She hates everyone who has failed them. She wishes she had cute underwear. Quigley was actually a small saving grace for her. She's scared. She's gone three weeks, four days, and eleven hours between showers with soap.
Ice cream makes her teeth hurt. Beatrice had a fish, but Violet has never had a pet. She knows a smattering of German. She thinks her parents would be ashamed of her because of what has happened since they went to the VFD headquarters. Sometimes she hates herself. Lunch usually included 'what can Violet build out of forks'. She's incredibly lonely. She's actually rather good at volleyball. She thinks that they'll never go back to Boston. At night, she stares at the ceiling and tries to count how many people were still in the hotel before it burned. She's never been to therapy. She could eat her weight in fresh, warm bread with butter on it. Boys (and men) constantly draw her eye, and even she finds it disconcerting. She wants to know. Part of her wonders if Olaf really killed her parents. She wonders if she's the one who made Sunny think of things like burning down the hotel. She put on some of Esme's lipstick when no one was looking. One night when Klaus was gone, she tried kissing her pillow. Never a big reader, Violet's favorite book is Little Women.(81)
In her parent's library, she found a book of etchings once which she hid from Klaus. She honestly thought that their lives would start again with Uncle Monty. She's considered changing their names and going to work so that Klaus and eventually Sunny can go to public school. She likes turtles. She's jealous of other people her age, but tries to hide it. Even after everything, she's still scared of being teased. She hates that she feels like an adult shoved into a teenager's body. She's never actually been told that she's bad. She dislikes cooked green vegetables. Violet stands and eats like a scared animal waiting for something bad to happen. She's never even thought that liking girls is a possibility. Violet has always been small for her age, but when she grew to 5'1" two years ago, she stopped growing. She's particularly attracted to a person's hands and arms. She would rather be cold than hot.
