The recording hidden, she returned to Theed. During the day, she learned the (public) expectations of the Queen and by night, she sought the aide, Teckla, who had given her the recording as well as the name of the Jedi from the recording.

While she sat perusing holonews archives for the mysterious Jedi, there was a quiet cough. She turned; Teckla stood behind her, hands demurely held before her, hidden by her sleeves.

“M’lady.”

“Mistress Minnau,” she greeted and rose to her feet, closing the door behind the aide. “Teckla, why?”

The aide lowered her gaze before she met the younger woman’s eyes. “As Senator, I felt you deserved the truth regarding a previous Senator.”

“You showed the recording to Senator Binks?”

The older woman’s cheeks flooded with colour and heat. “No! However,” she continued, “you are of Senator Amidala’s family and I felt you deserved the truth.”

“You’ve seen the footage the recording contains?”

Her blush deepened. “Not all, Senator,” she admitted. “The footage was personal and, with your appointment, I knew you deserved the truth it contained, to know the world into which you descend.

“I served under your aunt. She listened. She also worried, as did everyone I knew, about the Wars that the then Republic Senate sought to extend.” Her hands appeared, folded, in her lap. “I do not feel she was killed by the Jedi. She believed in them.

“She loved one of them. For what reason would they turn upon her, one of their most publicly seen supporters?”

Pooja nodded. “So, you showed me the truth.”

“I showed you the truth I knew.” The hood of her cloak fell, revealing the pale blue cap of before. “Padmé Amidala loved, and was loved. Why would he, or any of his Order, have turned upon her? They were our protectors. The peacekeeping Generals who sought to end a War that caused such death and fear throughout the galaxy.”

Pooja studied her hands and a deep breath was slowly released before she looked at the other woman again. “Who was he?”

“Obi-Wan Kenobi,” Teckla promptly replied. “Jedi General of the Republic known as the Negotiator.”

Pooja frowned, her bottom lip caught between her teeth. “I know that name,” she quietly stated.

“He is in Naboo’s history,” Teckla smiled, “and you were alive during the Wars. He was very well-known.”

Pooja nodded. “And he loved my aunt?”

“He loved your aunt, from what I could tell from the recording.”

“You never saw him?”

“No. He and your aunt were very discreet. I doubt even Captain Typho knew. And,” she added, “you will not find him in any archives.” She looked beyond Pooja’s shoulder to the screen behind the younger woman. “The Empire has erased any mention of the Jedi.”

Her fingers twisted around each other. She released a breath she’d not known she’d held. She nodded; a slight gesture. “Thank you, Teckla,” she murmured before, again, she looked up from her hands. “You have given me a greater gift than you know.”

Teckla nodded, stood; Pooja also rose to her feet and the two women hugged. “We cannot meet again, m’lady,” the older woman whispered. Pooja inclined her head. “I wish you much luck with your appointment.”

Pooja watched the older woman leave before she turned to the console. Pressing a button, she closed the archives she had been perusing before the older woman’s arrival. Her eyes closed, her face lowered, there was another escaped sigh. She had been correct. There was no absolute proof but she had been right.

The Jedi had not killed her aunt and, now, in part, she knew the world into which she now entered.
