This was another story I’d written for that ‘Tis the Season impromptu prompt of ‘snow’. Like the others (
A simple joy and
Not if I get him first!), I felt I should share it.
It should be noted that ‘Tis the Season stories aren’t known for their characterisation, though I try!

The crunch of new-fallen snow announced the approaching couple; it wasn’t thought that it could be the new King walking through the streets with his Queen so she could become used to the cold and to know the city. Arm in arm, they strolled the thoroughfares of the city until they paused, her blue eyes alighting upon children taking aim at one another with snowballs. Enquiringly, her gaze moved to her husband.
He shook his head slightly in response and they moved on, leaving behind the delighted yells of battles won and lost on the fields of snow.
Later, when he stepped into their private garden for some air, he was splattered across the back with a not-so-random snowball. He spun on his heel, to face his love and blinked when another not-so-random ball of snow broke against his chest. She stood before him, although feet away; her hands were empty.
“You missed much, growing in the valley,” she spoke softly as she stepped toward him. “I wanted to give something of what you missed back to you.”
He smiled, lopsidedly, and drew her into his arms. “Thank you, meldë.” He leaned down a moment and she watched the movement, curiously. “It is a thoughtful and most generous ...” She gasped as a handful of snow was plopped atop her head and he laughed as she backed away from him, leaning down to fill her hand with snow.
There were some human customs, he noted, laughing, that she was learning very swiftly!
