Wrapping the cloak closer, she stands in the courtyard. Her breath easily seen in the frosted air, she folds her arms closely about herself. Warmth beckons from the cheery candlelight shining steadily in the window behind but amongst the close stars and moonlight, she feels more at home. Under her feet, snow drifts in lazy spirals each time her feet move, which is not often.
The night is holding its breath, she decides, and further steps into night. Behind her, voices are upraised in songs to ward against the cold and the dark.
A hand lightly rests upon her shoulder. “Do the stars call, meldë?”
“No,” she replied and half-turned to him. “Did they call to you?”
He held a hand above her head and the corners of his lips curved lopsidedly. “My heart called and I found my love amongst the stars.” He leaned closer and pressed his lips to hers. His hand lowered and she espied the greenery caught within his fingers. She raised his hand as snow began to weave a silver crown within her hair.
“’T’is a night for kissing?” He offered, innocently. She chuckled and rested her head upon his shoulder as he led her back to golden light and song.
