He remembers the last time she'd danced; the waltz had been beyond all recognition for her. “Follow my lead,” he tells her as he spins her into the music.
“I know how to waltz!” She retorts but he chuckles to hear her counting under her breath.
“Shall we stick with the waltz, luv?” A light tone as she gathers her footing and then she smiles at him so warmly that he cannot help but return her smile.
He can hear her counting under her breath and it's not until she stops, having caught herself in the moment that he ventures. “Is this all this for me?”
“Well,” she begins, her hand on his light, “yes, it is.”
“I thought you liked quiet dinners and walks on the beach,” he teases.
“And sometimes I like to dress up,” she smiles. “I wanted to do something special.”
“Why?”
“Because life is filled with moments and I wanted us, between snow monsters and ice walls and psychotic ice queens to have a moment. Our moment and that dance in the past was one except,” she gestures at the walls, “this time?
“This is our moment, our dance in Storybrooke where we live. Would you rather the past or the moment we're making right now that doesn't involve kings or guards or arrests?”
“I definitely,” he replies as he spins her lazily, “prefer this one.” He pauses. “Regina isn't going to appear is she?”
Emma laughs and he relaxes. “No but she did help me.”
“Regina?”
“Why not?” She asks, amusement at his disbelief hiding. Unsuccessfully, she adds to herself but at least she was trying.
“I wouldn't have thought she would is all.” Then another question occurs. “What is New Year's Eve and what do people do on it?”
She stands still, gently pulls him to a halt. “It's a holiday, the day before the next year, the New Year, begins and when the clock strikes midnight ...”
“Aye?”
In answer, she pulls him closer by his coat lapels and presses her lips against his. In reply, he wraps his arms around her and kisses back.
