Title: ‘Tis the Season: A sobering moment.
Fandom: Doctor Who
Rating: (G)
Time Period: After Amy and Rory have left.
Summary: The Doctor remembers a word.

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

This part was meant to be longer but I'm still shaking this story out. I hope I get all of it; it promises to be a doozy of a story!

Instead of answering, Geoff takes another swig, then another. By the time the bottle is lowered, most of it is gone. The Doctor wonders if most of it went in the first gulp; when it came to eggnog, Geoff was a champ at its demolishment.

“Going to talk yet or drink more 'nog?” See? He had learned words when he visited the Brig and his wife! If only the Brig could see him now!

Actually, he hopes not but he was beaming with pride for remembering the word 'nog when Geoff finally speaks.

“She left me.”

And with Geoff's three words, the pride with remembering, and using!, a word learned long ago fizzles away to nothing.

“Oh.” He reaches for the almost empty bottle. “What happened?”
