What she did will never be right, she feels, no matter what Rumpelstiltskin might say to the contrary. She killed. It doesn't matter if it was to save her family; she killed.
She had decided her path and that's what makes it worse. She had decided that she had to protect her family, that the harder path was not hers to take anymore. But nothing could justify the taking of a life; it's why she had given Regina that chance, all those years ago. It's why she had refused that candle when she was a girl and her mother lay dying. Nothing could justify taking a life.
And it was not her way. It should never have become her way.
It was not her way.
For the first time in days, she stands, pushing away from the bed and grabbing her coat by the door. She knows what to do.
Her life for Cora, the life she took. It was fair, right. She would offer herself to Regina, let the other take her life in exchange for the life she took. It doesn't matter that Cora would have killed Rumpelstiltskin; she doesn't know for certain that's what would have happened. She had no right to take the other woman's life.
She opens the door, makes sure it's locked behind her.
It was right, fair.
Left unspoken, unacknowledged is the fact that, to offer her life, it would end her pain, her guilt.
