'all the umbrellas in london'

elementary schools smell like locker rooms in this 31°C heat. the kids still ask surprising questions and one eight year old girl does strip-tease sort of dances when I ask them to mimick animals. I'm leaving in less than two weeks now; I'm exhausted, excited, emotional.
keeping-it-real with lots of coffee and after school drinking. enduring the same old george bush/european-dream conversations with rekindled patience. for a lot of these people, I'm the only american to lend an ear for their questions/rants/raves. and then we watch the world cup and drink rum while I correct tests and mark grades.
it hasn't been all good- in fact the majority of the year was clouds and bitterness and sleeping-too-much-but-never-enough and hiding small bottles of scotch-whiskey in my room. now I'm getting to the point where je me debrouille bien but I'm still ready to partir.
I've got a weak in poway/temecula to see the extended fam, cousins graduating, candles on cakes... twenty-five days with that obnoxious red headed companion of mine before he's off to japan for a year. everything is tumbling, rapidly scattering, collecting and breathing,
(sweating sweating sweating),
gimme some animal collective and let's get out.
