This method isn't as reliable as looking at their parts -- >,o W-wow, I need to get my mind out of the gutter. Or at least take a nap so I'm not so tired. Their HAIR PARTS, self! The parts in their HAIR! Not...other parts. >,>
If it's allowable, KITT will probably very likely learn to tell them apart very quickly, even if he's not sure right away which name to assign to which individual. Identical twins look identical to the naked human eye, to the scans and analyses of a computer, there are probably "plenty" of differences. Plus their voices. Voice analysis software can tell apart originals and mimicries of voice samples, so I'd imagine it could pick up the differences between two different people, albeit identical twins.
But I'll totally leave that up to you two how quickly want someone to be able to tell them apart, or I can come up with something to explain either why KITT just /can't/ right away, or why he'd not call them on their bullshit. Because depending on what they're up to . . . he will. XD;;;
... LMFAO LLAJSDFLJASDF /GOES TO EDIT THAT!! Terrible, just terrible. XDDD
Aaaaanyway.
Because being unable to be told apart is such a major thing for both Hikaru and Kaoru, being the foundation of soooo many complex issues for them, we're gonna have to say no to telling them apart with scans/computer analyses. It would undermine a lot of the things that they've had (and are still having) trouble overcoming, and would lessen the impact of those few who are able to tell them apart. If you'd like, the lack of difference could be chalked up to their world ... a.k.a anime/manga canon =/= our reality? Or something like that.
HOWEVER, as for their voices! We're totally fine with KITT noticing the slight differences between those! As we mentioned over here, the differences are only noticeable to those who have super duper insanely sensitive hearing; even their close friends can't tell their voices apart. But Hikaru's voice is very slightly deeper, and Kaoru's sounds a little more worn. KITT's free to pick up on that, if you'd like!
