It turns out that I have a LiveJournal

I seem to have forgotten that fact for a while. I will probably continue to forget it for the near future. I just want you all to know that I'm not dead. Many of you already know that, because you're coming to my wedding this weekend.

It turns out that getting married is a lot like getting accepted to college. You spend months (years) thinking about it and planning for it. When you finally know that its going to happen, you're still months away from the event. You spend those months figuring out the details of getting to college and what you'll do there; choosing a dorm and registering for classes. You're excited and you talk about it all the time. Still, it doesn't seem real until three days before you leave and you're starting to pack up your things. Suddenly, and maybe for the first time, you're afraid. Your life is going to change forever. Just what have you gotten yourself into? Of course, you know that you've made the right decision. You're excited about the adventure ahead of you, but that knot in your stomach doesn't go away for long.

"Jitters" seem like a trivial term for all of this. My family and my oldest friends are all going to be in one place at one time to celebrate me and Laura. That gives the whole week a gravity I hadn't expected. Yes, pledging myself to the woman I love for the rest of our lives is a big deal, but its turning into such a big deal! Laura and I could have gone to a JP and been just as married, but we would have missed out. The event, the spectacle, emphasizes the importance of what we're doing. I'm thankful for the crazyness and the the stress and even the jitters, because it all reminds me how amazing it is to find a person you want to spend your life with, who also wants to spend it with you.

184 people are coming to this thing. That's just crazy and wonderful and humbling.
