I don't know you.. but I tend to look at my friend's friends.. and I thought I would comment on this subject.
Let's just say.. I started out with one cat, Baku. We got him neutured because he was just spraying too much.. and would get very loud. His personality wasn't changed by this at all.. aside fromt he spraying and loudness. We also got him a friend, Anubis (who was an offspring of one of my cats back home) and eventually took in a stray, Isis. We got Anubis neutured after we saw he was raping Isis.. but it was too late. Isis got preggers, and she had Eight kittens (that's more than we bargained for). Being that most shelters are kill shelters, and any no-kill shelters were full, we tried finding homes for kitties by other means. It's been six months, and we still have one left. I can't keep him, and it looks like the pound is the only option. :(
Despite there not being a lot of mates in Mao's area that you know of, stray cats can come a long way for a mate, as well as males wandering in order to find a ripe female. Fighting can spread disease, and allowing it to happen can cause serious injuries to your cat. Spraying causes damage to property.. and if your cat starts spraying on the couches (like my cat did) it's nearly impossible to get the smell out. It WILL stop after you get him fixed. I might take a month.. but it will soon stop all togheather. Your cat will keep much of his same personality! The only thing that might change is his weight.. and that's about it. All of my cats are fixed now.. and Isis has totally kept her same personality! She's always been the most fiesty, and always will in my opinion.
I would highly suggest getting your cat fixed. But, this is coming from a stranger. ;)
