Why is it always a sex issue? Why are women always looked down upon or coddled because of their gender by men or even by other women? Why was it okay for Hillary Clinton to be mocked and derided for giving off a strong appearance in her pantsuits but not okay for Sarah Palin to be questioned about her political capability in her skirts??
The female gender is not a cross. Don't nail anyone to it. Get off our fucking backs, you chauvinistic asshats. However, women shouldn't brandish their gender like a weapon either. That is not to say that women don't have more to over come to get where they might be in comparison to their male colleagues but to pull that card every time is to come down closer to the very chauvinists they denounce.
I don't understand why--rather, refuse to accept--that gender is even relevant. I want to succeed and be recognized for my own skills and abilities. I want to be chosen and hired because I am better than the next guy, whether the next guy pee standing up or sitting down.
Some people might ask if I would want a man to open doors for me. I would say, "Yes." Yes but not because I am a woman. I'll take an open door held by a man or a woman and I'll do the same for anyone were I that polite. Some other people might ask if I would want a man paying for my meals. To this, I would also say, "Yes." Yes but not because I am a woman but because I am a sucker for freebies =P I'll even take--actually, have taken--free meals from organizations, groups, clubs, etc. (Shamelessness is one of many skills colleges teach.)
Sometimes I wonder if the world would be a little bit better if the genders have no publicly distinguishable physical traits. How would society be structured then? Of course, knowing ourselves, we'd probably come up with other things to discriminate one another en mass about. Some would say there already are other topics of discrimination as pervasive as gender =/
