When You Were Young You Were the Queen of Clover Flowers.
Television Night last night was me & David, & then eventually Jenny! Just our lonesome crew. Before anybody got home I played a game about being an unmanned drone pilot, & then David & I watched an episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic that was about the Ponyville quasi- Valentine's Day, "Hearts & Hooves." While it had a love potion ("love...poison!") & the Cutiemark Crusaders, it wasn't all that noteworthy. Afterward we cracked open the emulator on the Wii & played through Life Force, which seems like it is awfully short, but as David pointed out, playing it with thirty lives & three continues sort of undercuts the fact that beating it is like seven months of muscle memory. When Jenny came home, we put on The New Girl-- well, there was a false start where we thought we might watch American Gun, but when the daughter was like "Ah better not break ah nail!" we were like, nope. No sir. So, The New Girl, which David & Jenny already like. As I've said, I want to like Zooey Deschanel, but I have been having a hard time with actually...doing that. The New Girl makes it easier by having plots that essentially involve characters calling her out for her manic pixie dreamgirling. Self-effacing arcs dealing with your pretentiousness is a smart move; I should know, I wear all black all the time. Yeah, it is a "thing," but it is my thing, & okay, if Zooey Deschanel has a thing, that is fine, too. Oh, but here is something weird-- David & Jenny don't think Lizzy Caplan is attractive? Which, ka-pow, blew my mind, since she is obviously the hottest, right? I mean, in The Class, Cloverfield, True Blood, wherever-- I don't particularly care about Party Down-- she's clearly the attractive one. Also, trouble. So basically, Jenny. Oh, & we were drinking Auchentoshan Single Malt Scotch that David brought; it had enough smoke in its bite to catch my interest. We finished up the night with Modern Family, which hey, that show is still surprisingly good, huh? The whole "Everyfamily, Anytown, USA!" schtick is pretty flexible, but they've twisted it into a solid shape by just...spoofing the cliches.
