Not knowing how to play checkers is a kind of cultural illiteracy I can't understand even a little bit. The boards and pieces are ubiquitous and the rules are dead simple.

Also, you have the board arranged wrong. The last square in the first row should be one of the lighter colored squares and pieces get placed on the darker colored squares. In chess the mnemonic for the board orientation is "White on right and queen on color."

I knew "queen on colour." Also the board is arranged wrong because I inverted the colours. To be cool. My mistake.

I haven't played checkers in like 20 years. I thought I knew the rules-- but was so wrong. CHECKERS.
