I was disappointed not to get a chance to play with the new forced movement options. A big fight would probably be a whole lot of fun, though the saving throw and effect bookkeeping was making me bored and I was the one who cast the damn spell.
i have not played a game with the new rules so it's hard to know how well the mechanics work. but. there are some things i like (new attack categories as far as vs. AC, vs. Reflex, vs. Will, et al) i like rituals. i like warlocks
( ... )
at-will is great. having play-tested the warlock in the olden days of 3e, i can say that it works just fine. consider: swinging a sword with power attack was an at-will action.
i do like the new defenses-- i'm not sure i'd even bother with ac, actually.
the rules ARE very combat sim. then again-- how much roleplaying rules do you need? all i'd like to see is non-fighty powers...rituals seem to work thus, but i'd like some easier ones.
i don't like missing the lawful evil, yeah, but then, i DO like unaligned. so that is a grab bag.
don't know why hit points are static-- that does sort of bum me out, but only out of nostalgia. i DO like healing surges, because it puts a limit on clerical craziness, & also lets a cleric do more than act as a first aid station.
Played at gameday - the human male fighter - he was alright - the only one to survive - I like that the warlock and the ranger are "blaster" classes - and that it's like a new scheme to have them in - but the premade characters didn't include either and we were sort of schooled and often. My set is in the mail - I like that they made the combats more interesting and seem to have stepped away from adjudicating the RP action - like - we'll make it a better fighting sim and if you want this other stuff - you should do it! We're done telling you how.
